Dimitri (age 36) was born in Kyrgyzstan but was raised in Germany when he was twelve. Besides music, he enjoyed playing soccer with his friends at the time. He had always been into music and growing up he would hear a lot of rock, techno, and hip hop. As the music scene progressed in Germany, new sounds emerged, and it caught Dimitri’s attention. One day, his friend wanted to host a party at a club and asked him to DJ. After the event was such a success, it prompted Dimitri to consider pursuing DJing as a serious career opportunity. Luckily, he had a DJ friend who was able to help him get started and ever since 2016 he has been taking music more seriously. He wanted to stray away from being a DJ for parties and weddings, so he started producing his own music and taught himself music theory. I asked Dimitri a couple questions to give us a better understanding of who he is as an artist:

Have you ever felt like you wanted to quit?

Yeah, there are times where I wanted to take a break from music. Sometimes I feel that I am not producing good enough music. It gets challenging at times. With limited knowledge of music, it can get frustrating. I am learning as I go, watching many YouTube tutorials. I know I have nothing to lose, I got to keep going, and try to stay positive.

What are your current goals as a musician?

I want to keep making more music and sharing it with the world. I want to get in the habit of waking up and going to sleep with music.

Why music? What made you want to start DJing?

Honestly, I just wanted to try it out. Whenever I listen to music, I see and hear it in a different perspective than others, so I want to try and incorporate my interpretation of those sounds into my own music. Bottomline is that music makes me happy.

What are three top artists you pull inspiration from?

Three artists would be MARTEN HØRGER, Tchami, and Sullivan King

What makes you unique?

I tend to combine several styles of music. I usually pull elements from dubstep and bass house in my own work. Hard Work… dedicating a lot of time in bettering my craft is also what sets me apart from other people.

What are 3 pieces of advice you would give to others looking to start off?

Work hard, persevere through tough times, and don’t listen to too many people’s opinions.

Once Dimitri starts a track, he always finishes it instead of starting multiple tracks at a time. His whole musical journey has been a learning process for him, and he says he is still learning as he goes. Yes, it can be hard to earn a living from DJing, but this is something that Dimitri is passionate about and he hopes to reach a point where he can just do music for the rest of his life. I had an amazing conversation with Dimitri, and I would appreciate it if everyone could show love and support to his page and music.
